Problems Associated with Poor Commercial Lighting

Is it time to evaluate the lighting in your business or commercial property? People can become very accustomed to whatever lighting they are used to experiencing day in and day out. But being accustomed to something doesn’t mean there aren’t problems associated with it. It can be absolutely remarkable how much of a positive impact better lighting can have! There are two categories of problems with poor commercial lighting: technical issues and human resources issues. Here’s what we mean by that.

Technical Issues

These are problems that have technical causes. This can encompass a wide variety of things that require the attention of a qualified electrician.

  • Wiring Problems: If you simply have a flickering light, try tightening the bulb while the light is off and you’re wearing a heavy glove. If that doesn’t resolve it, or if many lights flicker or you also notice that switch plates are warm to the touch or there is a smell like overheated plastic, you should be very concerned about the wiring. Wires can become kinked, pinched, or shorted, or connections can become loose. This can cause a devastating electrical fire. You need commercial lighting services in Hayden, ID to prevent that horrifying outcome.
  • Electrical Panel Problems: While flickering lights may be the first sign you spot when you need an electrical panel upgrade, you might also notice circuit breakers tripping frequently or a crackling sound or burning smell coming from the electrical panel itself. Again, this is a fire hazard and needs to be addressed immediately.
  • Outdated Technology: Older generations of commercial lighting used a lot more energy than today’s options and gave a poorer quality of light. Cut your electric bill and brighten things up by modernizing your lighting.

Human Resources Issues

These are problems that affect your employees or tenants that could be eliminated or improved with a lighting upgrade.

  • Decreased Productivity: When workers struggle to see or are frustrated with dim or flickering lighting, they can’t do their best work. Tasks may take longer, have to be redone, or be completed with less precision.
  • Decreased Wellbeing: Dim, flickering, or poorly-placed lighting can lead to eyestrain, headaches, and bad moods. Employees are more likely to take time off work if they aren’t feeling their best. Customers are less likely to enjoy spending time—and money—in your businesses.
  • Safety Hazards: Poor lighting can lead to difficulty assessing risk or being precise enough to avoid risks. This is of greatest concern when dangerous equipment is in use, but in any business, tripping over or bumping into something because of poor lighting can lead to injuries.
