5 Common Service Problems to Check Before Calling!

Is the thermostat set at the proper temperature?
Be sure you have set your thermostat to the temperature you want the room to maintain.

Is the thermostat in the proper mode desired (Heating or Cooling)?
Most thermostats have the ability to either control your cooling or heating with some type of switch either on the side, top or bottom of the thermostat. Make sure it is in the mode you want to run. If it is a newer electronic thermostat they refer to it as the system switch.

Is the power switch on the actual furnace/AC unit turned on?
Furnaces and air conditioners must have some type of power shut off so the unit can be serviced. On many furnaces it is nothing other then a light switch that shuts the unit down. Look for a wall switch that seems not to control anything in the mechanical room. The outdoor air conditioning unit has a disconnect close to its location that has fuses (not recommended to access unless you are comfortable with electricity). You can check to see if the breaker has tripped to the off position in your homes breaker panel.

Has the filter been changed or checked recently?
Furnaces & air conditioners must have proper air flow to continue to operate. if your unit seems to be running but you have no air flow at the registers check your filter for cleanliness.

Are the doors on the furnace/AC unit properly closed?
If for some reason the doors (covers) of the furnace have become loose the safety switch in the furnace will keep the unit from coming on.
