Construction General Laborer


Assist in digging manholes, grading, guiding equipment operators using universal hand signaling. Properly using hand tools, power tools, jack hammers, shovel, compactors, etc. Position requires continuous bending, walking on uneven ground, and heavy lifting. Constantly around moving machinery, exposed to changes in temperature and humidity as well as dust, fumes, and gases. Position also requires frequently squatting, crawling, working above shoulders, kneeling, stooping, climbing stairs, steps, ladders, & step stools, and driving company vehicles. Required to be on feet for long periods of time in changing weather conditions. A strong work ethic and attention to detail are a MUST! Reports to: Job Foreman & Superintendent

Daily Duties:

1. Report directly to on-site supervisor
2. Attend safety meetings
3. Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks
4. Use hand a power tools to complete daily tasks
5. Daily cleanup of work sites
6. Use of shovels and rakes for trenching, grading and fine-tuning earth work.
7. Putting up warning devices and barricades
8. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations
9. Assist pipelayers during pipe installation projects
10. Handling and transporting construction materials
11. Clean, inspect and properly maintain tools
12. Ensure proper Personal Protective Equipment is worn. (Hard hat, goggles, gloves, etc.)
13. Direct traffic safely around the site
14. Operating powered compaction equipment (jumping jack, plate whacker, etc.)
15. Complete tasks in a safe and timely manner


1. Valid Driver’s License
2. Reliable transportation
3. Able to understand verbal and written instructions
4. No experience necessary but construction experience is a plus

Performance Indicators:

Certain key business indicators that will measure the effectiveness of the General Laborer. These include the following:

1. Show up on site 15-20 minutes before shift to go over the work plan for the day.
2. Attend and understand weekly on-site safety meetings
3. Must work well with others in a team-oriented environment
4. Excellent work ethic is a must
5. High standard for quality of work performed
