How Does a Heat Recovery Ventilator Work?
A heat recovery ventilator is a compact rectangular box that integrates directly within your HVAC system. It utilizes a heat exchanger core in order to precondition incoming fresh air by means of the outgoing stale air. Stale air exchanges its thermal energy with the incoming fresh air during the winter months. This device also works during the summer months, though not with the same effectiveness as an energy recovery ventilator. As your cool stale air exits through the HRV, it draws some of the thermal energy from the incoming hot air in order to cut down on the amount of cooling required by your HVAC system. Year–round heat recovery is a great way to ventilate your home without the cost of opening windows.
