Air cleaners are one of the main steps on the road toward good indoor air quality. There are many types and sizes of air cleaners available that range anywhere from quite inexpensive to models which are top–of–the–line expensive entire–home systems. Even within the variety of air cleaners themselves, some models are more effective at removing particles than others, and generally speaking they do not remove gaseous contaminants.
Air cleaners in their essence have a fibrous membrane which is used to prevent various particles from flowing through. A fan will generally push the air through the membrane, and once the air has passed through the unit is comes out cleaner than when it went in.
