The Pros and Cons of Ductless AC Units

Ductless air conditioners are manufactured just like conventional air conditioning systems but with one major benefit: no ducts! If you don’t have any ducts in your home, it can be difficult to keep cool. Window AC units are often inefficient and rarely do a sufficient job of keeping the whole area cool. That’s why we recommend durable ductless air conditioning systems: so you don’t have to settle for less than you deserve. Take a look at some of the many advantages to these systems (and when another solution may be a better choice).

The Benefits of Ductless AC Systems

Ductless air conditioning systems are designed with two major components. The outside condenser is just like the conventional condenser unit of a split-system AC. The indoor blowers are mounted on the wall, in each room or zone that you need air. Here’s why this design is so useful:

  • Ductless air conditioners use less energy. Ductless systems often get above-average ratings for energy efficiency, even when compared to many central AC systems, and especially over window units.
  • You can cool a single room separately from the rest of the house. Each room or zone of the home has its own thermostat, so you can control one unit without affecting the temperature throughout the house.
  • Installing ducts would be a pain, and window units are too. Installing ductwork is no easy task and it would take up a large portion of your time. Window units break down easily, while ductless split systems are durable and can be installed in a day’s work.

When Ductless Air Conditioning Is Not the Best Choice

You probably should not consider ductless air conditioning installation if you already have a ducted central air conditioning system that needs replacement. Ductless air conditioners can be expensive, and you should probably replace your central air unit with a similar system as long as your ducts are in good shape. Ductless units are mainly reserved for homes, room additions, or detached structures without access to any central ventilation system.
